My Gear Bag

For my gear I, like most people, have a budget but will get the best I can afford at a given time. My camera body is a Canon 50D and the primary lens I use is Canon 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 ultrasonic with image stabilization. I have recently added a 7D body for a secondary camera which generally wears an all purpose Sigma 18-250mm DC OS HSM lens or my Sigma 150-500mm DG OS lens for the long bird/wildlife shots. I have a Canon 430 Speedlight flash which for my style of shooting is a bit overkill but nice when you need it.
I also carry a secondary all purpose lens Sigma 28-70mm DG f/2.8-4. This is a carry over from when I used the Rebel XT. It is a great little lens and works nicely when I want to lighten the camera weight a little.
I have put the most importance into my wide angle since I really enjoy taking landscapes and wider panoramic. The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC EX HSM has been outstanding for me. I get great degree coverage while keeping fine detail out on the edges. Even at 10mm I have to work at getting fish eye effect if I want it. Generally lenses this wide will give it even if not desired. I use this lens a great deal both inside and out and love it.
I have a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II. This lens will be a nice portrait or subject lens when I want the background blurred more. The f/1.8 will create nice effects in that way.

For accessories I have a digital concepts 2x converter, UV filter for all my lens, a circular polarizer which really helps with the Montana haze, neutral density filters ND2, ND4 and ND8 which basically add degrees of shade to the end of the lens allowing you to use longer shutter speeds without over exposing the shot and have recently added a set of graduated ND filters.
I have a canon remote for the 50D which allows for programing shots by how many shots, exposure times up to an hour for star trails or night work or time lapse series.

For rests I use a Vanguard Trekker II tripod which could hold a Buick steady and I also use a Slik lighty III mono pod which come in handy for my close ups on flowers as well as a stout BENRO mono pod and ball head for heavy field use.

I also have Sigma's DG EX 70mm macro and a set of Kenko extension tubes for close up work.
