Lost in Time 2

See Lost in Time post for discription of shoot...

Lost in Time

Inspired by an article in American Photo by Joe Gioia about new generation docu-photographers like Ian Ference, Lung Liu, Eric Holubow, Chris Payne and Annie O'niell and their works shooting abandoned hospitals, schools, hotels, apartments, etc. I used the long left dwellings in Bannack Montana for some trial works of my own. Using natural light to capture the many textures and colors inside these run down houses and buildings was a challenge but it allowed for a more accurate result of the feeling you get exploring these places. I like trying to capture the erie feeling of these forgotten locations, it is fun and I am fairly happy with the results I achieved for my first real go at this sort particular subject matter. All were shot with Canon 50D and Sigma 18-250mm lens. Benromonopod was used and all naturally lit. A mix of Auto white balance and sunlight white balance settings as well as ISOs ranging from 250-640. Center weighted metering. Some minor cropping and contrst adjustments were ade in post editing for subtle detail enhancement.

Hotel Meade

Bannack is one of may favorite Montana ghost towns as well as photo locations. Its building and landscape provide endless contrasts and textures to play around with. Bannack has also provided me with my one and only truely unexplainable and unnerving sensations. I am still a sceptic when it comes to spirits and ghosts and the like however.....Hotel Meade is known for its numerous encounters with ghosts and several years ago while exploring the second floor I had one of those wierd feels of pending danger..all the hairs on my body raised and I felt I had to leave the building as fast as I could....I saw nothing, heard nothing and still can not explain it though i was not the only one with that feeling. My wife had the same feeling which we did not discuss until later in the day. I have not had any such feelings on many return trips. The hotel does make for a great place to shoot and play with natural lighting from its many windows. These shots were taken using Canon 50D and Sigma 18-250mm lens on a Benro monopod. Auto white balance and center weighed metering.

Autumn in Glacier National Park

Autumn is a great time to visit Glacier...the crowds have cleard and the Aspen and berry bushes are turning brilliant colors. These are some sample shots taken along the trail from Sun Point on St Mary's lake to Baring Falls. All shots were taken with Canon 50D and Sigma 18-250mm lens.
